Education Programs

Undergraduate

PGFI has a strong commitment to strengthening genome sciences at PENN and is specifically interested in promoting genomics education among undergraduates.

  • Penn Genome Frontiers Institute Student Award
An annual undergraduate award for two graduating seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence and conducted research genomics
  • Undergraduate summer research program
Provides a stipend for selected undergraduates to immerse themselves in lectures on bioinformatics and RNA biology, while doing research with PGFI faculty mentors.
  • The departments of Biology, Computer Science and Mathematics have instituted concentrations in Computational and Mathematical Biology for undergraduates.

Graduate

Students interested in Master’s level work in the broad area of Genomics/Computational Biology can take the Bioinformatics track in the Master’s in Biotechnology program. In addition, PGFI has encouraged the development of four graduate level courses for students in the Genomics and Computational Biology (GCB) Graduate Group.  In this group, graduate students are located in PCBi during their first 18 months, before moving to their respective thesis labs. PGFI also supports a graduate student award that provides a year’s stipend to a deserving recipient, based upon written and oral presentations of the graduate student’s research.
